How I Care For My Oily Skin This Summer

1. Cleanse Twice Each Time

I cleanse my face twice a day, just after my shower in the morning and just before I go to bed. for cleansing, I cleanse twice before heading to the next step. The first time I cleanse, it sometimes doesn’t lather especially in the evening if I did a face makeup during the day and this is why I choose to cleanse twice whether or not I do makeup.

The first time I cleanse for about 10-15 seconds and rinse off with warm water. The second time around, I cleanse for 45 seconds to 1 minute and rinse off with cold water. I do sometimes use an electric sonic facial cleansing brush, but I do it when I have time to pamper myself as it’s massaging.

2. Use Chemical Exfoliation

I stopped doing the manual exfoliation because it felts like a waste of time to me and also, I was too lazy to do it. I use Salicylic Acid Peel 30%. I used this once to twice a week. Most times, I do it once a week.

This chemical peel is really good for my oily skin as I have witnessed it shrinking the pores on my cheeks. That is where I have large pores the most. I have been doing chemical exfoliating for about a year and it has done wonders for me. I apply it on my face after cleansing and I leave it on my face for about 10 minutes because my skin has a high tolerance for it but if you’re just starting, it’s best to start with 20 seconds and build up your tolerance from there.

3. I Tone With Apple Cider Vinegar

This is self explanatory. I use 60% acv + 40% filtered water in my formulation because I have been able to build my tolerance with Acv. The day I use the chemical acid peel, I skip this step and move to the next.

4. Apply Facial Mist

For this, I carry my facial mist with me everywhere. I have a big bottle at home and a travel size 100ml bottle in my bag when for when I’m out.

I apply this straight after my toner and wait for it to dry. Also, I apply it on my face when I feel it’s humid around my face and need some freshening up.

5. Stock Up On Moisture

It’s summer, yes I have oily, but my face can be dehydrated and look very oily. So far, my skin has gotten better so now I focus on getting more moisture in my skin. To read on how I cleared my facial acne, click here.

To start with, I apply aloe vera gel, any brand is one as long as it is a leave-in. Afterwards, I apply The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

I usually apply this whilst my face is still damp from the aloe vera gel and massage it on my neck as well. About two drops do the work because it’s quite sticky. After this, I do apply som facial mist again for more moisture

For more moisture, I go in with the Day One Moisturiser by Beauty Bay

I just started using this brand of moisturiser and so far I like it. After applying moisturiser, I like to go in again with some facial mist.

6. Sunscreen

For sunscreen, I usually apply it only when I go out. At the moment I use the Nivea Sun protect & dry touch

After applying these in this order, my face stays hydrated and anytime my skin feels dehydrated, I have my rose water to revive my skin.
