I decided to jump on a black owned hair care product for my 4B type hair and it’s been over a month since I started using the Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed Recipe series. Also, I decided to give my hair more love and care and here’s my story.
Purify Me Moisturising Co-wash Cleanser
Firstly, I just want to say, I bought this without reading the name clearly. It is a co-wash cleanser and I didn’t let that sink it. The first time I tried it, I was disappointed because it wouldn’t lather until I read the name on the bottle. By the second week I used it (I wash my hair once a week), I got used to it’s feel and i use this for just my scalp and work my way down to the hair if I need to. This product gave me that shampoo cleansing feel with little to no tangling afterwards. Usual sky when I use a clarifying shampoo, my hair tangles a bit because there’s no slip on my hair. I used this co-wash once a week so I’ve used it 5 times so far.
For rating I will give the Flaxseed Recipe Moisturising Co-Wash Cleanser a 8/10
Fix My Hair Intensive Repair Conditioning Masque
This conditioner can be used as a normal 5 minute rinse off conditioner in the shower and also as a deep conditioner. I used it for deep conditioning 80% of the time. I add a bit of honey when using it for deep conditioning. When I use it as a quick rinse off conditioner, my hair is actually left with this nice slip and literally no tangling. My fingers could literally go through my hair without a single tangling.
An issue I had with it in the beginning is the smell. All the Flaxseed Recipe products have the same smell. It isn’t horrible or an amazing smell. It’s just one of those smells that’s new to you and takes some time to get used to.
I’ll give the Flaxseed Recipe Intensive Repair Conditioning Masque a 8/10.
Soft All Over Multi-Purpose Oil
I use this oil as a prepoo and also a sealing oil after leave in conditioner. Using this after leave-in conditioner leaves my hair with that ultimate slip and I honestly love it because that’s what I’m going for to have that tangle free hair.
I will give the multi purpose oil a 10/10 because it does it’s job and it doesn’t leave my hair dry even the day after. So, I actually send up this oil in 5 weeks and that is using it as a prepoo and a sealing oil. I used it almost everyday along with the
Seal It Up Hydrating Sealing Butter
For this product, considering it has butter in its name, I thought it would give me that nice slippery feel like that of mango butter and shea butter but it just did not. It had more of a water based after feel which I did not like as I wanted to use this after I use a leave in conditioner. I had to use the multi purpose oil after applying this. I decided to give this another try without using the multi purpose oil afterwards and my hair was still left dry that I had to use the oil again.
I did try mixing the oil int the tub but they wouldn’t mix well and it just wasn’t working for me. I don’t think I will be using this except if I do have the time to add oil or Shea butter afterwards.
For ratings, I would give this a 3/10 because it just did not sit well with my hair and even trying to mix it with oil just did not improve the te
Don’t Shrink Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel
I use this curling gel after using the multi-purpose oil, that is if I want my curls popping and locked. Like it said my curls did not shrink as much as when I use other curling gels.
The best thing about this curling gel is that the day after I apply it, my hair is still tangle free. I usually just leave my hair in a satin bonnet without putting the hair in single twists or single braids. I didn’t need to spritz some water on my hair, it was just tangle free already and other curling gel just did not do this for me so I have fallen in love with this curling gel.
I will rate this gel a 10/10 because it doesn’t leave any residue on my hair, it keeps my hair tangle free even after days. Also, this is my favourite Flaxseed Recipe products. I definitely recommend this curling gel.
Tame My Edges Smoothing Gel
The Flaxseed Recipe edge control; nothing much to talk about here. So, my hair is a 4B type and it is thick, this edge control does the job of holding my edges down but it does not keep it laid for a long period of time.
So, for ratings I will give the edge control a 6/10 and it is a 6 because I actually haven’t found an edge control that keeps my 4B type hair laid down for a long period of time and by long period I mean at least 2 hours.
Quench Moisture Intensive Leave-in Conditioner
This is not part of the Flaxseed Recipe but I needed a leave-in conditioner and the Flaxseed Recipe series do non have one. They do a hair milk, which in its name, clearly isn’t a leave-in conditioner. I absolutely love this leave-in. From the Aunt Jackie’s products I have used, this is by far my favourite. I have used up the whole bottle in a period of 5 weeks. I use this almost everyday. I use it whilst my hair is between damp and wet and I try not to use too much of it and my hair feels nice and soft instantly.
I do recommend this product 100%. The contents in this leave-in conditioner does wonders. I will give this product a 10/10 because, it smells great, the packaging is great, the conditioner itself is not too thick or too viscous. It is just the right amount of viscosity.
