How To Make Cleansing Oil For Sensitive Skin

From my post Why Should You Oil Cleanse? I decided to make a post on how to make homemade cleansing oil for sensitive skin especially when you’re skeptical on buying skincare brands ready made cleansing oil. With homemade cleansing oil, at least you do know what you’re putting on your face. Sensitive skin isn’t just a type as it is either combined with dry skin or with oily skin or you could have normal skin with sensitive skin. For this post, we will treat sensitive skin as if combined with dry skin.

Types of Oil

For every cleansing oil formulation we need 4 types of oils.

  • Base oil
  • Core oil
  • Luxury oil
  • Essential oil

Base Oil

Base oil is the main cleansing oil that actually removes impurities and acts as an astringent cleaner. A really good astringent oil is Castor Oil. Castor oil is a great astringent and because of that it can be quite drying. Therefore, 10% of our formulation will be the base oil; castor oil.

Core Oil

For our core oil, we need to use one that is suitable for sensitive skin. The core oil takes up 50%-80% of the formulation. In all honesty, if you wanted to go for just one oil, it is best to opt for a core oil. Some suitable core oils for sensitive skin are Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Avocado Oil.

Luxury Oil

Luxury oil is self explanatory. Luxury oils do give an additional property to your formulation. For sensitive skin, its best to make the luxury oil 20% of your formulation. Two suitable luxury oil for the formulation are Jojoba Oil and Argan Oil. Jojoba oil is able to remove impurities and nourish the skin with sebum that is similar to the sebum the skin produces. Jojoba oil is suitable for all skin types. They are called luxury oils because they are quite expensive compared to other oils and they provide additional benefits

Essential Oil

Essential oils are not necessary either but if you do choose to get one, opt for a calming and soothing essential oil. Essential oils with such benefits are Chamomile essential oil, Lavender oil and Frankincense oil. it is best to star with 5 drops of essential oil per 100 ml and work your way up to 15 drops depending on your skin tolerance.

So, get oil cleansing and enjoy the benefits of every chosen oil used in your formulation.
